Omakase Restaurant – Shanghai, China

Shanghai-based studio Shanghai Hip-pop Architectural Decoration Design Co. has recently completed an ethereal eating establishment that offers Omakase-style Japanese food.

The restaurant – also called Omakase – is located in Shanghai, at  1-2F, No.22, Lane 320, Tianping Lu, Xuhui District where foodies are already well provided for with cuisine from all corners of the globe.

The Oamakase style is basically a “whatever the chef has decided to offer today” and the sushi that the chef offers will take the diners on an exploration of new and surprising ingredients, whatever is fresh, whatever the chef feels like preparing.

The surroundings in this new 160 square-metre restaurant are also surprising, taking the guests on a visceral journey to the romance of Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom festival and all the romantic stories and even computer games that it has inspired.

Rain, pink cherry blossoms and the extensive and clever use of glass create a magical vibe. Everything feels airborne, weightless and transparent, just like the magical spring time of the cherry blossom festival.

Hip-Pop has used similar design devices in other projects as well including the well-publicized Setsugekka Japanese restaurant in China they designed in 2016. Tuija Seipell.
