Carla Ridge Residence, Beverly Hills, California, USA

With its 9,800 square feet (910.5 sq. ft) and five bedrooms, Carla Ridge Residence fits perfectly in the portfolio of the developer for whom Los-Angeles-based Woods + Danagran created this project. It is a decidedly Californian residence with a skillfully orchestrated connection with nature and exquisite modernist touches throughout the interior.

Money is not a problem for most buyers viewing properties at Trousdale Estates in Beverly Hills. As of September 2019, the average sale price of a home in Trousdale Estates was over $11 million (US). Dozens of celebrities have called or call Trousdale Estates home including musicians Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Ringo Starr, US presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon, and business moguls Jeffrey Katzenberg, co-founder of DreamWorks, Garrett Camp, co-founder of Uber, and fashion designer Vera Wang.

With seemingly unlimited scope in terms of money and space, the architects took full advantage of the Californian climate and the spectacular views of Los Angeles to the east and the Pacific Ocean toward the west.

A two-level atrium occupies the central point of the large residence hugging a green, sloping site. But the house does not appear huge as the floor plan has been divided into two separate, low pavilions. Inside and outside mix effortlessly with overhangs, patios, terraces and sliding windows helping create a sense of connection to nature in all rooms.

The pavilion with the view of the Los Angeles skyline houses the public and entertainment spaces. Full-height sliding doors surround the great room linking it directly with the spectacular double infinity-edge swimming pool. The second pavilion houses the bedrooms and a family room. The master bedroom suite is in its separate gallery with an outdoor fireplace at one end and an outdoor seating area at the other.

The minimalist interior touches are highlighted by detailing and wall paneling in teak wood, floor slabs in travertine and some walls in board-formed raw concrete. Texture, subtle natural hues and tranquil views are featured in every space. Tuija Seipell
