The deliciously massive pink marshmallow sofa in Gothenburg’s newest bar/nightclub, Bon Bon Bar caught our attention first.
It is the focal point of the swanky bar that turns into a nightclub at night in a building that has a rich history.
Local SPIK Studios gave the Clarion Hotel Post’s 280 square metre (3,013 sq.ft) bar in the historic Posthuset building an eclectic feel of the 1920s without going overboard with the era’s glamour.
The studio created several custom features including the 40 metre curving sofa in sweet, pink velvet and oxblood leather, the restless and angular carpet and upholstery pattern in strong, the human/fox sculpture at the entrance, and the softly round tables and lighting fixtures in front of the curvy sofa.
The bar is located on the second floor of the Clarion Hotel Post that opened in 2012 and was designed by Semrén & Månsson.
They, in turn, designed the hotel and conference venue in the former Posthuset, Gothenburg’s former main post office, and added a modern tower.
The Posthuset was designed by Gothenburg’s own son architect Ernst Torulf (1872-1936) and completed in May 1925. Since 1995 it has been a listed building and many prominent features of the building, including the façade, cannot be altered.
Clarion Hotel Post is owned by the Swedish Home Properties and operated by Scandinavia’s largest hotel chain, Nordic Choice Hotels. The Norwegian billionaire Petter Anker Stordalen owns both companies. Tuija Seipell.
